Pension provision: Why a general power of attorney is important
Life is unpredictable, and a severe accident or a sudden stroke of fate can affect anyone. Many people shy away from dealing with such scenarios. However, the risk of being incapacitated by an accident or unexpected illness affects us all.
Not only accidents but also age-related illnesses such as dementia can mean that you are no longer able to manage your personal affairs yourself. At such times, everyone wants a trusted person to represent their interests. However, suppose you have not been granted a general power of attorney. In that case, there is a risk that the court will appoint someone else as your guardian.
With a general or health care proxy, you determine who will make decisions on your behalf in the event of your incapacity. In this way, you retain control over who represents your interests and avoid having someone else look after you in court.
You can also appoint several people as authorized representatives and determine the order of their representation. A general power of attorney is useful not only for older people but can also be very important for young adults aged 18 and over.
Trust in precaution - for yourself and your loved ones
